Take the Audio Tour: The self-guided audio tour is included with your ticket and offers a unique, in-depth experience of Alcatraz. Don’t miss out, it’s a great way to immerse yourself in the island’s fascinating history.
Explore Beyond the Prison: Alcatraz is more than just a prison. Be sure to explore the island’s beautiful gardens, lighthouse, and bird sanctuary. The island is also home to stunning views of the bay.
Timing is Key: If you want to avoid crowds, consider visiting early in the morning or later in the afternoon. Early tours are typically quieter, and the late afternoon offers a beautiful light for photos.
Wear Sunscreen: While San Francisco is known for its cool weather, the sun can still be strong, especially in the summer. Apply sunscreen before your visit to stay protected, even if it’s cloudy.
Bring a Reusable Water Bottle: Water fountains are available on the island, so bring a reusable bottle to refill throughout your visit.
Pack for All Seasons: The weather can change quickly, so it’s a good idea to pack a small bag with a hat, sunglasses, and an umbrella or light raincoat, especially during the cooler months.
Take Your Time on the Island: There’s a lot to see, so don’t rush through your visit. Take your time to explore the prison, learn about its history, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Catch the Last Ferry for Sunset Views: If you have the time, try to catch the last ferry back to San Francisco. The evening views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city skyline at sunset are breathtaking.
Stay Charged: The island doesn’t have many places to recharge your devices, so make sure your phone or camera is fully charged before your visit.
